1 5/8" Nicely Developed Hematite Hammerstone found in Pike County, Missouri by Don Black
1 5/8" Nicely Developed Hematite Hammerstone found in Pike County, Missouri by Don Black. 4 of the sides on this hammerstone are close to flat. With some additional pecking and grinding it could have easily became a cube. We normally don’t mess with hammerstones which were used for making chert bifaces but this is a nice one out of a material that was rarely used for that purpose. It may also have been the mid manufacture of a ball banner stone or head cone of sorts. One of those pieces that makes you think when you hold it.
