Ancient Neolithic Bead Manufacture Lot. The key piece to inspect is the flaked barrel bead core in this lot. The neolithic man that made it was an accomplished knapper. He flaked the piece in to its general shape driving flakes the length of the stone much like we see on obsidian cores from south America. The material is fused quartz which does allow for this form of manufacture and would greatly reduce the amount of time it took to get the general shape of the bead to the desired size. Once they got it to the desired bead form using those methods they would have used quartzite and quartz to finish the surface. The two stones that arnt barrel shaped were used for exactly that in bead manufacture. The other three stones in this lot are fused quartz barrel beads that were never drilled. The drilling process on these is hard to imagine given the stones hardness. A fun lot for study to those like myself that always ask the question "How did they do that?" These beads measure 5/8" to 3/4"
