High End Native American Artifact Auction
Lot 104:
2 3/8" Incan Jade Effigy Medicine/Poison/Dye's Bowl
2 3/8" Jade Effigy Medicine/Poison/Dye’s Bowl. Only one like this we have seen. The head on the front looks much like a serpent but it is not a definitive form. The inner bowl on this piece is nicely dished out with a strong lip that would suggest it is not a canopa. Likely used for compressing medicine, holding finger dyes or perhaps poison application for blow gun darts. Very unique and unusual artifact. The material appears to be jade but may be another green stone we are not familiar with. Reported as coming from Peru or one of the adjoining countries in South America so likely Incan. Ex Jeff Gower Collection.
