33 1/2" 18th/Early 19th Century Shau Lau Carving Taoism God of Longevity. Hand carved ornate statue made of one very large piece of wood. Has a plaster coat or something similar under the paint which was likely the norm when it was made. This is a true work of art by a master crafter from an era long past. Looking through carved statues of this figure that have been done over the past 50 years most don’t express as much detail as this one. Like most very old wood artworks it has its share of splits in the wood with a few chips here and there. The gold paint is old and frail from its age with a few chips flaking off in places. This is an awesome piece like it is but could be restored to its original state with a little restoration. These are worth looking up on the web. Small ones are quite pricey and this is a Giant of a Carving. I will guess that it weighs 75 to 100 pounds so keep that in mind on shipping when bidding. Has a little patina and dust in the recesses from age.
