Chewed Large Elk Horn Fossil found in SE Iowa
Large Elk Horn Fossil found in SE Iowa. This fossil would have worked for a tool or weapon for ancient native Americans. It has chew marks in 3 spots where squirrels or larger bone chewers of its era bit in to it. It washed out of a river bank where an ancient lake bed once stood. Where it was found many extinct species of fossils are found. The last reported live elk in Iowa was in 1871. It measures 16" and the end that has the spike is over 12"
