Lot 296:
Ferruginous Quartz Bannerstone by unknown maker
Ferruginous Quartz Bannerstone by unknown maker. Very beautiful piece. Likely made by the modern bannerstone makers of Illinois. The highest percentage of modern bannerstones since the 1950’s have been made of heat treated ferruginous quartz or quartzite due to its color and capacity to hold a great polish. They come in all forms and material types. Most bannerstones you see at shows and on sales are modern. The hard stone makers I know say maybe 10% are actually ancient. Modern bannerstones usually sell for 50 to 1000 dollars. Often they sell for more if a corrupt or incompetant seller/dealer says they are authentic. We are selling this as a beautiful piece of Lithic Art. This Banner measures 3 3/4" wide and over 2 3/4" Tall.
Condition: Authentic
