Antique Pre 1950's Hand Crafted Wood Train Set
This train set was handcrafted pre 1950’s. Excellent condition for its age. It doesnt have a manufacturers mark on it. Merchants Despatch was in business all the way back to the 1880’s. The best clue to its age is on the bottom of the coal car. A Federal Match Corporation matchbook cover was used to support the wheel rods which all work. Other pieces of the matchbook were likely used on the other cars as well. Federal Match Corporation was in business from 1923 and 1941 so that is likely the age of the train set. Its in great shape for its age. Wheels turn, cars connect etc. This train set was recovered from an attic resting wrapped in old paper inside a Jumbo Peanut Bar Box from Purity Candy Company. They were in business for 114 years. At the time the jumbo bars were a nickel. The box was in tatters but we recovered the pictured section of the box and it will be included with the old train set to help reflect its era. From the nose of the train to the caboose is approximately 22 inches.
