Lot 114:
Pre-Columbian Nasca Tasseled Conch Shell
Pre-Columbian Nasca Tasseled Conch Shell. Exhibits excellent patination. The heavy rope on this piece does not look as old and likely was used to hold the piece together with the tassels that are still for the most part intact. There is what appears to be a glyph or perhaps ancient signature near the cord holes etched in to the shell (see photo). An interesting piece that is most likely pre-Columbian but could be colonial period. Ex Jim Butler collection. Shell measures 9 3/4" and the tassels are 6 3/4" long approximately. Interesting textile collector’s item.
