12" Extinct Eastern Elk Horn found in SW Iowa
12" Extinct Eastern Elk Horn found in SW Iowa. It washed out of a river bank where an ancient lake bed once stood. Where it was found many extinct species of fossils are found. The last reported live elk in Iowa was in 1871. What little that is known about this race of elk has been gleaned from remains and historical references. The length of the horn is approximately 12" and the one intact tine measures 10".
