Lot 255:
18 1/2" LARGE Highly Engraved Tuareg Wooden Bowl - Mid-Century or Older
This bowl is crafted by the Tuareg people, who are nomadic pastoralists from Niger and other regions in Africa. Hand carved from indigenous wood with intricate patterns. The maker of this bowl put considerable time in to the artistry exhibited around the bowl. This bowl is in very good condition showing off its use nicely with primitive patch work by metal in two locations so the tribal peoples could continue using it. It is interesting to see how they mended this piece with metal patches and metal stitches that hemmed up a split in the wood. A very attractive display and conversation piece. 18 1/2" Diameter by 8 3/8" tall. From the Chuck and Eileen Hoffman Collection. Chuck and his wife spent most of their lives teaching in various countries bringing back interesting and often old pieces from the cultures they shared their lives with.
