Elaborate 19th to Early 20th Century Solid Wood Panel Carving of Shiva and Parvati from India. Shiva and Parvati are central deities in Hinduism, one of the world’s oldest religions. Shiva is part of the Hindu Trimurti, often representing the destroyer or transformer, while Parvati is his consort, symbolizing love, fertility, and devotion. Together, they embody a powerful divine partnership. Hinduism’s rich mythology and traditions highlight their significance in both spiritual and cultural contexts. A finely made piece of art this work is made from a heavy solid chunk of wood. It measures 17 3/4" by 9 1/8" by 3 1/4" thick. Shiva is missing a finger! Ex Chuck and Eileen Hoffman Collection. Chuck and Eileen traveled during their lives teaching in different countries around the world in the second half of the 20th Century. This is one of the treasures they brought home from their travels to remind them of the cultures they shared their lives with. Has the number 388 carved in the base.
