Japanese Woodblock Print by Ishikawa Toyonobu of Actor Segawa Kikujiro (1720-1756) playing the role of Kumo no Taema in the play Wakamidon nishiki Soga. Ishikawa Toyonobu (1711–1785) was a renowned Japanese ukiyo-e artist during the Edo period. He was known for his innovative woodblock prints, including bijin-ga (images of beautiful women) and yakusha-e (actor prints). Toyonobu’s work often depicted courtesans, Kabuki actors, and scenes from urban life, showcasing the elegance and culture of the time. He also experimented with semi-nude forms and created benizuri-e. Print has a tare across the top of it as shown in photos. Otherwise very good condition for its age.
