Pre-Columbian Mayan Miniature Incised Tripod Pottery Vessel – The Hero Twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque . A very artistic piece depicting two faces with head dresses. Most likely the Hero Twins who are often depicted in Ancient Mayan Pottery. The Hero Twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque, are central figures in Maya mythology, particularly known from the Popol Vuh, the sacred text of the K’iche’ Maya. Their story is rich with symbolic meaning and reflects the values and beliefs of the ancient Maya culture. Good old pottery piece with good patination and no restoration. Measures 3 3/8" tall.
