Lot 387:
Bronze Votive Statue Dedicated to Athena 500-475 BC
There is another bronze nearly identical to this one in the Collection of Museums in Berlin. The bronze in Berlin has writing which reads "TATHANA FILLO CHARMYLIDA DEKATAN" which means: "Phillo, the daughter of Charmylidas, dedicates a tenth (of the harvest) to the goddess Athena." There is writing which can’t be made out on this bronze due to its patination. Given its likeness to the one in Berlin, it very likely has the same inscription under the patina. This piece measures a little over 4 7/8" tall, exhibits correct manufacture and correct patination for the period it is from. Ex Dave Wally Collection.
