Songye Katatora Divination Tool from the Democratic Republic of Congo
Used by soothsayers called mbuki to solve social problems through rituals. The client and Mbuki hold the figurine together while asking questions during the ritual. The double-faced carving may represent questions directed towards both the living and the ancestors. These figures are believed to mediate between gods and people. Stands 7 1/2" tall.
