Canaanite Terracotta Figurine of Fertility Goddess – 1600 BCE and 600 BCE. Broken and glued as shown in photos. This artifact came to us broken. Although not a good thing to happen it did give opportunity to show off the core of the piece which shows that it was fired correctly (the ancient way which leaves the center black inside the pottery). Canaanite Terracotta Figures were often associated with deities like Astarte or Asherah. Made in the bronze age this figure this figure symbolizes fertility, motherhood, and protection. Canaanite figures were often used in domestic or ritual contexts, possibly as amulets for women during childbirth. Measures 4 3/4" tall.
