1916 Academy of Natural Sciences – Some Aboriginal Sites on Green River, Kentucky. Certain Aboriginal Sites on Lower Ohio River. Additional Investigation on Mississippi River by Clarence B. Moore. Published by the Academy, Philadelphia 1916. It explores archaeological investigations of Indigenous sites along the Green River in Kentucky, detailing findings related to Native American habitation and artifacts. One of the earliest publications focused on bannerstones and other artifacts that has in color plates completed by archaeologists from excavated sites along the Green River in Kentucky. Publications like this are very important in the identification and realization of ancient artifacts in North America. Although there were stone makers reproducing stone artifacts prior to this book it was produced by archaeologists to share knowledge. Unlike self-published books by collector’s who have acquired their collections from various sources like dealers at shows, contemporary lithic stone artists, antique malls, auctions loaded with modern pieces consigned by bad or incompetent sellers etc. this book is grounded in fact as opposed to many of the books published over the past 100 years which incorporate modern made stone works to enhance the appeal of their publications. This book contains many pictures to include early color plates which show off bannerstones which are the more attractive artifacts discovered from the mounds and sites excavated. A very educational and extremely rare book. Very few 1st Edition original copies of this book are still in existence. The cover is tattered. Internally excellent condition for its age with binding still tight. A must have book for the collector of ancient stone tools of North America. Comes w/ a 16" by 12" Riker Frame
