Sami Laplander Horn/Bone Sheath & Knife - Highly Engraved Handle & Hand Forged Blade w/ Antler
Sami Laplander Horn/Bone Sheath & Knife – Norwegian Highly Engraved Handle & Hand Forged Blade w/ Antler Handle. "Laplander" historically refers to the Sami people, an Indigenous group native to the northern regions of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula in Russia. They traditionally inhabit a region called Sapmi, often referred to as Lapland in older or non-Sami contexts. The sheath is late 19th to early 20th century. The knife also a Sami knife does not appear to be the original knife that went with the sheath (it fits loosely). The sheath is highly engraved with the images of reindeer. The hearding of reindeer is a tradition with deep roots in Sami culture.The Sami have a deep connection to the Arctic environment, and many are known for their reindeer herding traditions, though today they participate in a wide range of professions and modern industries. Knife measures 7 7/8" and the sheath measures 7 1/4"
