Lot 501:
Hopewell Platform Pipe Made by Donnie Lemmons (circa 1970's)
Hopewell Platform Pipe Made by Donnie Lemmons (circa 1970’s). Made of Ohio Pipestone. Pipes made like this of Ohio Pipestone were made for several decades by Donnie, Billy Guthrie and a couple other stone artisans from Pike County, Illinois. A key difference between Billy and Donnies work on Ohio pipestone pieces is the way they fired their work when it was done. Donnies method would leave the surface smooth where Billy’s method left the surface checked from heat stress. Often their work has been unidentified or falsely presented by bad resellers over the years. This pipe is not only attractive it has a nice draw to it so is also functional. It measures 3 3/4" by 2 1/2".
