Theatre Inedit by Madame De Stael. Published in 1821 by Treuttel et Wurtz, a major Franco-German publishing house with offices in Paris, Strasbourg, and London. Madame de Stael’s Theatre inedit (Unpublished Theatre) refers to her experimental dramatic works and performances, mostly staged privately at Coppet and Geneva between 1804–1811. These plays were not widely published in her lifetime, but they reveal her interest in reshaping French theatre through Romantic ideals. Inside page states this was once part of the library of Lord Metcalfes. Publishers original Full leather hardbackwith gold gilt to spine. Very good condition for its age. Externally cover is still intact with partial seperation on the spine edge as shown in photos. Internally binding is tight with a little foxing to pages toward the front and back pages as is the usual for its age. From the late Larry Innis Collection. At the time of this listings preparation there was only one other volume for sale on the web from 1821 demonstrating its rarity.
