RARE 1851 The Royal Gallery of British Art by J. Hogarth. Published By J. Hogarth, 5 Haymarket, London circa 1851. Presumed 1st Edition. Half leather hardback. Cover has been professionally redone, title page has been repaired. There is some foxing toward the front and rear pages of the book. All plates appear to be present. The Royal Gallery of British Art is a two-volume work published by J. Hogarth around 1851 (This lot only consists of volume 1). It features engravings of paintings by renowned British artists such as J.M.W. Turner, John Constable, and Thomas Gainsborough. The plates were created by skilled engravers like W. Finden and E. Finden, and the work was dedicated to Queen Victoria. The collection highlights British art from the 19th century and includes explanatory texts accompanying the plates. A very rare book. At the time of this listing there was not another of these for sale on the web and information on the book was scarce. A very large folio size book.
