Bivalve Fossil Cluster in Stone Matrix from Mazon Creek in Illinois 307–309 million. Bivalve fossils are the preserved remains of ancient clams, oysters, mussels, and similar shell-bearing mollusks that lived in seas, lakes, and rivers for over 500 million years. Measures 1 1/4". Both sides of the stone that hold the fossils. Ex Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. "HA" stands for the Hoard Anderson collection, one of the largest private collections of Mazon Creek fossils that was donated to the museum. Hoard donated his collection in 1978. At some point since then the Museum deaccessioned much of his collection to raise money for museum projects.
