Original 1927 Hiroshi Yoshida "Noon Rest at Numazaki Pasture" Woodblock Print. Hiroshi Yoshida (1876–1950). Noon Rest at Numazaki Pasture / Noon Day’s Rest Woodblock print published by the artist in 1927. Signed and sealed. A serene and luminous example of Hiroshi Yoshida’s mastery, Noon Rest at Numazaki Pasture captures a moment of quiet repose within the pastoral landscapes that defined much of his early Shin? Hanga work. Rendered with Yoshida’s characteristic precision and sensitivity to atmosphere, the composition depicts grazing horses and resting figures bathed in the warm clarity of midday light. Subtle gradations of color achieved through Yoshida’s exacting multi-block printing techniques create a sense of depth and tranquility that has made this print a favorite among collectors. Yoshida’s ability to merge Western naturalistic perspective with traditional Japanese woodblock aesthetics is fully evident here. The expansive sky, gentle rolling terrain, and careful attention to shadow and texture reflect his international artistic training and his commitment to elevating the woodblock medium to new expressive heights. Works from this series are increasingly sought after for their refined palette, exceptional printing quality, and the artist’s personal involvement in the production process. This impression displays strong color retention, crisp linework, and the nuanced tonal transitions that distinguish the finest Yoshida prints. A superb example of Yoshida’s pastoral imagery and a desirable addition to any collection of Shin? Hanga or early 20th century Japanese prints. Measures 21 3/8" by 16" approximately. Excellent condition as shown in photographs. At some time a razor knife was used incorrectly slicing into an edge on the top left corner. Was mended with a special tape on the back side. From the late Leonard E. Wally Estate Collection.
