9 3/4" Mesoamerican Hacha
Hachas are believed to have been ceremonial implements, possibly worn on the front of a player’s yoke during the ancient Mesoamerican ballgame. The carving depicts a stylized face that has characteristics of a skull. Skulls were often used in these societies to symbolize the cycle of life and death and were used in rituals and offerings. 9 3/4" tall 7 3/4" wide 1 1/2" Thick.
