Exceptional Artifact & Collectible Auction
Lot 107:
5 1/8" Pre-Columbian Chalcedony Bifacial Leaf Blade, 500 BCE–1200 CE
Fine Pre-Columbian bifacial blade crafted from high grade chalcedony, measuring approximately 5 1/8" in length. Both faces exhibit alternating bifacial flaking, with well controlled pressure work used to thin and shape the blade. The symmetrical leaf shaped outline and refined workmanship indicate a true knife or projectile form blade rather than a unifacial ceremonial piece. Produced throughout the Pre-Columbian period, bifacial blades of this quality served as functional tools, weapons, or prestige items. Estimated age approximately 500 BCE to 1200 CE.
