Buyer's premium:

A hand formed Pre-Columbian Maya pottery vessel featuring a rounded body, narrow neck, and an applied anthropomorphic face modeled in relief on one side. Constructed in traditional indigenous Maya fashion with thick walls, visible mineral temper, and hand smoothed surfaces typical of low fire earthenware. The vessel shows classic traits of ethnographic Maya ceramics, including coil built construction, uneven oxidation, and a naturally porous clay body. Measures approximately 7 1/4 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches in diameter.

The exterior surface bears a later applied coating, likely added by a past finder or collector to enhance display appearance. This enhancement is not original to the vessel; areas where the coating has thinned reveal the authentic clay, texture, and hand modeled applique work beneath.

Provenance: Ex Tom Moxley Collection.

Condition Report:

Solid vessel with no restoration. One area of rim damage as shown in photos. Surface has a later applied coating from a previous finder or collector.
