Buyer's premium:

A hand formed Pre-Columbian Maya earthenware pot, dating to approximately 500 to 1500 CE (Late Preclassic to Postclassic Period). From the Tom Moxley Collection, known for its strong emphasis on Maya material culture. The vessel measures 3 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/4 inches wide, with a rounded body and wide mouth. The exterior features painted surface coloration and incised decorative lines, both characteristic of everyday Maya pottery traditions. The two tone mineral staining and textured surface reflect long burial and natural soil chemistry.

This type of small utilitarian vessel would have been used in ancient Maya households for food preparation, storage, or ritual offerings. The handmade construction, low fire clay, and simple painted and incised decoration are consistent with village level Maya ceramics rather than elite ceremonial ware.

Condition Report:

Structurally solid with stress fractures from ground pressure, typical of excavated examples. No modern restoration. Surface shows natural mineral deposits, age related wear, and original incised and painted details.
