Exceptional Artifact & Collectible Auction
Lot 114:
Pre-Columbian Maya Open Bowl (Sun?Disk Form), 500–900 CE
Pre-Columbian Maya open bowl measuring 5 5/8 inches in diameter and 1 1/2 inches tall. Viewed from above, the vessel displays the classic "sun disk" silhouette associated with Maya cosmological bowl forms, with a perfectly circular mouth and a thickened rim that creates a strong, glyph like outline. The interior drops smoothly from the rim, forming the shallow, open profile typical of serving and ritual bowls of the Classic Maya period.
Condition:
A solid, unrestored piece. It has several chips along the rim edge, as shown in the photos, along with surface wear consistent with age and burial. No restoration is evident.
Provenance: Ex Tom Moxley Collection.
Condition: Authentic
