19th C. Mexican / Central American Painted Pottery Bowl
19th century hand painted pottery bowl from the Tom Moxley Collection. A traditional village made earthenware bowl featuring a bold geometric zigzag band painted in dark mineral pigment over an orange red slip. The bowl is hand formed with a coarse clay body, a flat unglazed base, and an interior showing authentic age worn burnishing from long use. Classic low fire construction typical of older Mexican and Central American utilitarian pottery. Measures a little over 4 inches in diameter.
Condition:
Wear consistent with age, including surface abrasion, mineral staining, and paint loss. No visible restoration.
