Lot 135:
Pre-Columbian Mayan Colorful Hand Painted Polychrome Pottery Serving Bowl
Pre-Columbian Maya hand painted pottery serving bowl measuring approximately 10 inches in diameter and 3 5/8 inches tall. This shallow, wide mouthed vessel is formed from coarse earthenware clay and decorated with mineral based pigments in warm, earthy tones. The painted banding and surface coloration are characteristic of Maya utilitarian and serving ware, reflecting both functional purpose and aesthetic tradition.
The bowl exhibits correct ancient manufacture, including hand formed construction, low fire ceramic fabric, and surface wear consistent with long age and burial. The interior and exterior show natural patination, mineral deposits, and firing variation typical of authentic Maya pottery. Minor rim chips are present, as expected for a vessel of this antiquity, but the piece remains solid and well preserved overall.
