Buyer's premium:

This well made Hemphill point measures approximately 2 5/8 inches and is crafted from high quality white Burlington chert. The material shows the soft mineralized surface and even patination characteristic of long term burial, with subtle color variation typical of weathered Burlington. The workmanship is clean and controlled, with well executed bifacial thinning and neatly pressure flaked blade edges. The classic Hemphill form is clearly expressed, including a narrow elongated blade, slight shoulder development, and a well defined stem with a properly shaped base.

Both faces display consistent flake patterns with no signs of modern reworking, and the surface patination is uniform across all flake scars. Edge wear and weathering are natural and even, supporting genuine prehistoric age. The coloration, texture, and workmanship align perfectly with known Hemphill examples from eastern Missouri and the surrounding Midwest.

This artifact comes from the Koehler family’s four generation farm in Lincoln County, Missouri, discovered by Donald Koehler, his father, or his grandfather. The farm has produced artifacts for decades, and this piece comes directly from that long established family collection. The material, workmanship, and regional context are fully consistent with authentic Hemphill points recovered from the area.

This artifact is an authentic Hemphill point, exhibiting all diagnostic traits of the type including its narrow blade, defined stem, and refined pressure flaked edges. The white Burlington chert shows proper ancient patination with softened flake scars and mineralized surface texture consistent with long term burial. Uniform edge wear further supports genuine prehistoric use.

Based on its form, workmanship, patination, and documented Missouri provenance, this is a high quality unquestionably authentic Hemphill and an excellent example of the type.
