Carboniferous Period about 307 million years old
This specimen shows the classic rounded leaf whorl ofAnnularia a member of the ancient calamite horsetail family
Both halves of the siderite nodule are included and each showsthe fossil impression clearly
The leaflets are short rounded and arranged in a circular whorlgiving the piece a flower like appearance which makes Annulariaone of the most visually appealing Mazon Creek plants

HA stands for the Hoard Anderson collection one of the largestprivate collections of Mazon Creek fossils donated to themuseum in 1978
The museum later deaccessioned much of the collection to raisefunds for projects
