Hand painted Maya polychrome ceramic cylinder vessel made in the late 20th century by contemporary Maya artisans
The vessel features a cream slip with red and black painted figures glyph inspired motifs and banded borders that draw on Classic period Maya artistic traditions
Measures approximately 5 5/8 in tall and 4 3/4 in diameter
During the 1990s a significant amount of Maya made pottery entered the United States produced by descendants of the ancient Maya who continued traditional ceramic techniques while creating pieces for the collector and decorative arts market
This vessel is a representative example of that revival period
