Mid 20th Century Tibetan Brass Ritual Butter Lamp with Lion Mask Motif
Cast brass ritual butter lamp featuring a bold lion mask motif in raised relief a protective symbol widely used in Tibetan and Himalayan art. The lamp is topped with a small wick cup for burning oil or butter consistent with traditional household and shrine lighting practices in Tibetan Buddhism. Decorative banding and flared terminals reflect the ornate metalwork characteristic of mid 20th century Tibetan craftsmanship.
Lamps of this type were used as offerings symbolizing clarity wisdom and the dispelling of darkness and the lion imagery reinforces their role as protective objects within the home or altar space. A well crafted example with strong sculptural presence.
