Buyer's premium:

This large hand formed Mississippian ceramic bowl features a wide open mouth, thick uneven rim, and a small rim lug on one side. The exterior shows a mottled brown surface with mineral accretion and soil bonded deposits. The interior displays heavy age consistent wear with natural discoloration and mineral staining. The bowl has been restored, with at least three visible joined break lines where sections have been reassembled. The piece measures approximately 8 3/4 inches in diameter and 2 3/4 inches tall and comes from the late Paul Potter collection. Surface Analysis – The exterior surface shows firmly bonded mineral buildup consistent with long term burial. The rim displays softened edges and age consistent abrasion. The interior shows natural mineral staining with no signs of modern resurfacing. The hand formed construction is visible in the rim irregularity and wall thickness variation. Multiple restored joins are visible, with slight color variation and alignment shifts along the repaired lines. No modern tooling marks are present. Overall surface condition is correct for Mississippian hand manufacture and extended historical age. Ex Paul Potter Collection
