Lot 288:
Large Polished Petrified Wood Cross-Section Specimen
Substantial petrified wood specimen featuring a cut and polished cross-section that beautifully reveals the original growth structure of the ancient tree. Distinctive cream, tan, gray, brown, and black mineralized banding is visible throughout, highlighting the natural fossilization process that replaced the original organic material with silica over millions of years. The specimen displays attractive grain patterns, contrasting mineral coloration, and excellent visual depth. One face has been polished to enhance the fossil wood structure, while portions of the exterior retain a more natural weathered texture. An impressive display piece for fossil, mineral, lapidary, or natural history collections. Approximately 8 in. W x 5 in. H x 4 in. D. Prehistoric; millions of years old. Exact geological age unknown.
Condition: Good overall condition with a polished display face. Natural fissures, inclusions, edge roughness, and minor losses consistent with petrified wood and lapidary preparation. No significant repairs observed. Sold as photographed.
