5.25" Mid-Century Inuit Stone Engraving Of Seal Hunter Scene – Ex Eldon Jones Collection

Measures approximately 3.75 inches tall by 5.25 inches long. Mid-20th century Inuit stone engraving depicting a seated parka-clad hunter beside a seal at an ice breathing hole. The composition is carved into polished dark stone and displays strong graphic detail, with carefully incised outlines, crosshatching, and landscape elements creating a narrative Arctic scene. The figure is rendered in traditional northern dress with a hooded parka and simplified facial features characteristic of Inuit artistic themes.

The reverse bears a series of engraved symbols resembling Inuit syllabics together with an inventory or catalog designation. The dark green-black stone and engraved storytelling format are consistent with mid-century Canadian Arctic Inuit artwork produced during the period when northern carvings and graphic arts became widely collected. The engraving demonstrates considerable skill and attention to detail, particularly in the treatment of the figure, seal, and surrounding environmental elements.

Surface condition is consistent with age, display, and handling. An appealing mid-century example of Arctic-themed Inuit art combining sculpture and engraved storytelling imagery.

Provenance: From the late Eldon Jones Collection.

Condition: Ancient Authentic
