Lot 177:
Sugar Quartz Bannerstone Preform - NE Arkansas, 1 15/16" (Ex Dave Walley Collection)
This is a sugar quartz bannerstone preform from northeast Arkansas, originally yellow in color and now showing natural orange iron-oxide staining from long-term mineral oxidation. The piece displays the correct bannerstone body shaping with symmetrical lobes and a central mass where the perforation would be placed. A hole was started at the top but never completed, indicating the piece was abandoned during manufacture. The sugar quartz shows granular crystalline texture, natural patination, and authentic prehistoric grinding on the wing edges. The Indian that made this piece likely stopped due to the hole being so far off center where he initially started drilling. Measures 1 15/16 inches tall. Ex Dave Walley Collection.
