Original 1799-1802 Katsushika Hokusai Japanese Woodblock Print of Akasaka – Edo Period. Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was a renowned Japanese artist and printmaker of the Edo period. He is best known for his woodblock prints, particularly the series "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji", which includes the iconic print "The Great Wave off Kanagawa". Hokusai"s work had a significant influence on both Japanese art and Western artists. Akasaka is a vibrant district in Minato, Tokyo. This woodblock print measures 6 5/8" by 4 1/4". Much simpler than the woodblock prints that follwed through the 19th century works by this artist stand as the beginings to what would today be highly collected and prized woodblock artworks created by the Japanese. Very good condition for its age with age toning commensurate w/ age.
