Saint George Slaying the Dragon Icon – Bulgarian Oil on Wood. Made in accordance with the old recipe as stated by the canon of the religion. Made with egg tempera, gold leaf or gilt on a solid wood panel. Made from a wooden plank. The artists that have made these style of paintings utilize the wood they have available to turn them in to works of art following the traditions of the church. Age unknown. Measures 10 1/4" by 7 3/8" by 3/4" thick. From the Chuck and Eileen Hoffman Collection. Chuck and his wife spent most of their lives teaching in various countries bringing back interesting and often old pieces from the cultures they shared their lives with.
