Lot 407:
14th to 15th Century Bronze or Copper Alloy Bracelet from Mali, Inland Niger Region
14th-15th Century Bronze Bracelet from Niger. The only bronze bracelet we could find like this is located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Although the build of the bracelet is the same as the one in the museum this bracelet has more added details. Near the spiked ends there are 4 raised banded ridges encircling the perimeter of the bracelet with a bullseye below those on both sides. The outer diameter is approximately 3 1/16" and 2 1/8" on the interior. Acquired legally prior to 1970 by Chuck and Eileen Hoffman while teaching overseas in Africa. Resembles Manilla Currency used during the slave trade in Africa. The age and location where it originated we concluded from visual comparison of others on the web. Likely made by the Dogon people of Mali.
Condition: Ancient Authentic
