High End Native American Artifact Auction
Lot 206:
4 7/8" Smith found in Montgomery County, Missouri w/ COA
4 7/8" Smith found in Montgomery County, Missouri w/ COA. 1st Stage Smith. It’s rare to see one of these in this initial stage. The blade appears to be entirely made with hammerstone percussion with exception of the notches. It is attractive in its ugliness. You smith collectors know what I mean by that. There is a deep appreciation by those who understand smith manufacture. The Indian that made it did so with a very primitive tool set which often resulted in breakage during manufacture. Collectors of other point types may look at it and see a turd but some of us look past that like looking at a painting that only makes sense to other artists. Found by Michael Auchly’s Great Grandfather on their homestead in Montgomery County, Missouri in the early 1900’s. Comes with a Ryan Keele COA.
