Mid Century or Older African Benin Bronze Royal Leopard - African Tribal Art
Mid Century or Older African Benin Bronze Royal Leopard or Cat – African Tribal Art. A finely crafted old bronze with patination. The head for some reason has a light corrosion or perhaps it was painted some time in the distant past giving it that look. There are some white spots on the rump which may also be remnants of being painted some time ago. We dont like cleaning old things…that falls to the future owner. Measures approximately 21" long and 12" tall. There was one nearly identical to this one that sold on 1st Dibs for around 1800.00. No doubt made by the same artist from africa. Bronze cats like this were often made and displayed in twos. The other one could be the one we found on that site which makes it chasable for someone wanting to put a pair together.
