Dryptoscolex matthiesae, a rare polychaete worm (Annelida: Polychaeta: Phyllodocida) from the famous Mazon Creek fossil beds in Illinois. It dates to the Middle Pennsylvanian (approx. 305 million years ago) and is preserved in ironstone concretions of the Francis Creek Shale. Measures 1 1/2". Both sides of the stone nodule that hold the fossil. Ex Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. "HA" stands for the Hoard Anderson collection, one of the largest private collections of Mazon Creek fossils that was donated to the museum. Hoard donated his collection in 1978. At some point since then the Museum deaccessioned much of his collection to raise money for museum projects.
