Problematica Fossil Found in Mazon Creen in Illinois
The "problematica" fossils from the Mazon Creek site in Illinois are unusual, poorly understood fossils that scientists cannot confidently classify. They represent mysterious organisms from the Carboniferous period (about 309–307 million years ago), preserved in ironstone concretions, and include enigmatic forms like Tullimonstrum gregarium (the "Tully Monster"), Illinois’ state fossil. Measures 2 3/8". Both sides of the stone nodule that hold the fossil.
