3 5/8 Inch Pre-Columbian Anthropomorphic Pottery Whistle Effigy
3 5/8 Inch Pre-Columbian Anthropomorphic Pottery Whistle Effigy
Pre-Columbian anthropomorphic pottery whistle effigy measuring 3 5/8 inches in length, modeled as a human figure with pronounced nose, closed eyes, prominent lips, segmented headdress, and applied arms. Hand-built hollow pottery construction with multiple openings including body perforations and a larger rear aperture consistent with a whistle or sound-producing effigy form. The exterior displays a well-burnished dark brown surface with lighter areas of exposed clay from age and wear. Surface exhibits excellent ancient patination with substantial mineral accretions, burial deposits, and developed surface maturation throughout. Condition shows expected ancient wear and scattered losses while retaining strong detail to the facial features, headdress, and body. Excellent patination, mineralization, wear patterns, and accumulated deposits support the artifact’s antiquity. No repairs or restoration observed, and the piece remains structurally solid and intact. Ex Randy Hudson Collection. Possibly originating from the Lower Central American region, including present-day Costa Rica or Nicaragua.
