Lot 175:
4 3/4" Slate Gorget found in Russell County, Kentucky
This 4 3/4 inch slate Gorget was found in Russell County, Kentucky by Bennie Powell in the 1940s, with an old collection sticker noting it was recovered below Wolf Creek Dam on Lake Cumberland. The Gorget is shaped from dark slate with correct hand-ground surfaces, softly rounded edges, and authentic patination across both faces. The perforations show proper interior wear with smooth, matte polish and no modern drill signatures. The exterior retains mineral-embedded coloration and shows no evidence of resurfacing or recent tooling. This piece comes from the James Shield Collection and retains its original provenience labeling.
