Lot 242:
4 7/8" Banded Slate Winged Bannerstone found in the Susquehanna Valley - Ex James F. Shields
A 4 7/8" winged bannerstone made of dark gray-green banded slate, showing clear parallel sedimentary layering across both wings. The exterior grinding is correct for Eastern Woodlands manufacture, with smooth, symmetrical wing shaping and naturally rounded edges. The perforation is straight-drilled, consistent with slate bannerstones from the Susquehanna Valley, PA. The piece has an old break that was repaired with glue, visible in the photos. Patination is appropriate for banded slate, with a stable matte surface and no indicators of modern grinding or alteration. Ex James F. Shields Collection, Paxtang, Pennsylvania.
