Lot 263:
3 1/8" Han Dynasty Stone Plaque Ornament 1,800-2,200 years old
3 1/8" Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) Nephrite Jade Plaque Ornament
Rectangular plaque ornament measuring approximately 3 1/8 in. in length, carved from translucent nephrite jade and pierced with suspension holes at opposing ends. The plaque exhibits carefully ground and polished surfaces with rounded corners and a thin elongated form. Microscopic examination reveals a dense compact structure with extensive polishing and abrasion traces consistent with lapidary manufacture. Surfaces display age-related wear and a developed archaeological patina. The dual perforations suggest use as a suspended ornament or decorative plaque. The form, material, workmanship, and association with other Chinese artifacts from the collection are consistent with Han Dynasty jade ornaments dating to circa 206 BC-220 AD. Condition is good overall with expected ancient wear, surface scratches, and mineral deposits. One corner was broken and has been reattached with adhesive. The plaque remains stable and presents well for display. An attractive example of ancient Chinese nephrite jade craftsmanship approximately 1,800-2,200 years old.
Condition: Ancient Authentic
