5" English Black Glass Onion Bottle – Circa 1680-1730

Measures approximately 5 inches in height and 5 1/2 inches in diameter. Free-blown dark olive-black glass bottle with globular onion-form body, tapered neck, and deeply pushed-up base. The vessel exhibits pronounced asymmetry throughout the body and neck with irregular contours and variations in form characteristic of hand-blown manufacture. Extensive white calcareous mineral accretions remain adhered across much of the exterior surface with exposed areas revealing weathered dark glass beneath.

The bottle displays a substantial pushed-up base with heavy surface deposits and glass alteration. Visible manufacturing irregularities are present throughout and include uneven wall contours and a non-uniform profile resulting from free-blown production. The dark glass, globular form, and hand-worked construction are consistent with early black glass bottles attributed to English manufacture.

Surface deposits, weathering, and mineral accretions indicate prolonged burial or immersion. The neck terminates in an old break. An attractive early black glass bottle retaining strong visual presence and significant age-related character throughout.
